Let Nature Inspire A Spectacular Fall Wedding
By Ellen Moore
Autumn is my favorite season. It is a time of ripe apples, clear blue skies, crisp night air, and boldly colored leaves. Everything seems deeper, richer, and cozier to me in the fall. The aromas, tastes, clothing, and colors take on more volume. It is the transition from the easy, breezy days of summer to comfy, introspective winter. Nature has its last hurrah in the most colorful and creative ways.
I can't think of anything more beautiful than an autumn wedding. It is a time to really think outside of the box and take advantage of the unique items Mother Nature has provided as well as utilize the rich flavors, colors, and aromas of the season. Fall weddings can be spectacular, romantic and unique.
If you live near a vineyard or a park, consider an outside venue. Can there be anything more romantic than saying your vows in a rustic panorama of tangerine and claret-colored leaves gently rustling in a clean breeze? If it is too cold where you live, then take it inside before a large window framing the view. Or bring in some of the leaves, branches and berries, arrange them on a mantel, and pledge your love before a crackling fireplace.
A little grapevine basket filled with multicolored chrysanthemum petals is so colorful for the flower girl. Your bridesmaids would look stunning in goldenrod, cinnamon, or wine carrying matching colored Gerber Daisies. Your dress can be in a thicker fabric or a creamier shade of white or ivory. Your bouquet could be a burst of fall colors in lilies, snapdragons, coffee berries, and Eucalyptus sprays.
Decorations can be so innovative. Arrange terra cotta pots filled with fall foliage. Make an archway of twisted grapevines. String miniature amber lights overhead. For the reception, use miniature pumpkins or crab apples as placecard holders or even print guests’ names directly on the fruit with a gold or silver marker. Large vases of branches of berries or tiny pears and calla lilies or sunflowers surrounded by cinnamon or pumpkin scented candles bring the season right to the table. You could place bowls of fall fruit such as apples and pears on the tables and encourage your guests to partake for a lighter appetizer or dessert. A cornucopia of fall fruit or flowers on the buffet table adds just the right seasonal touch.
A wedding cake in white or ivory decorated with edible fall flowers or even marzipan replicas is spectacular. Or you can be so innovative with the shapes, colors, and decorations for your cakes these days. The flavors can be something unexpected as well. Apple spice, carrot, banana nut, or cinnamon bun flavors are just a few that can really "Wow" your guests.
From pomegranates and mini gourds to topaz satin gowns and amber candles, an Autumn wedding is rich and deep and warm. Intense colors and flavors are abundant. It's a time to cozy up to a fireplace and to your loved ones. Fall weddings just seem to inspire intimacy and imagination. Take yours to the limit. With some creativity and the abundance nature offers, yours can be spectacular!
